Breeze, 2024
(single channel, sound, 1:49 looped)
There's a profound connection between diligent observation and the potent world of metaphor. It uncovers hidden parallels and symbolic meanings, understanding of possibility. Looking beyond the obvious, seeing the unseen, and recognizing the inherent power of revealing.
Bulbs, 2007
(single channel video, sound, 13 minutes, looped)
This work is a series of specific and individual scenes of plantings in tree wells of Manhattan sidewalks in early spring. The structure and pacing of the piece facilitates a fluctuation between observation and overlooking, boredom and discovery. The first emergence of the bulbs embody the promise of what is to come and the ambient sounds of each location hint at a larger context.
View of the Empire State Building From the Seventh Floor, 2006
(single channel, silent, 1:06 looped, projected directly on a white wall)
As one looks at the seemingly static image of the Empire State Building, one notices split second flares of tourists’ camera flashes from the 86th floor observation deck. The piece asks for a quiet consideration to perceive the fleeting yet evidentiary moments of presence and existence and speaks directly to my desire to bear witness to the evidence of human lives and what is left behind in their wake.

Early Video Work
Heels, 1982
(single channel video, sound,1:18 seconds)
This is one of my earliest attempts to explore the medium of video. The Spike Heel was part of a large collection used in various types of work. Here, the action is anthropomorphizing the shoe, creating ticks for the viewer. Done with white card and a mylar stage.
Boy/Girl, 1983
(single channel with sound, 1:50 seconds)
This early performance video work explores gender identity and signifiers using essential elements of visual cues and sound. Done in the classroom after hours.
