Beyond Belief
A Mantle Of Charity Thrown Over The Failures Of Other Men, 1991
This work was part of the Beyond Belief exhibition curated by Rupert Jenkins for SF Camerawork in 1991.
The installation surrounds the viewer with dark red walls, inviting them to kneel in order to view two of the three images. The two images veiled are Guilt (after Fragonard)’ and Sin (an allegorical still life of the Seven Deadly Sins) and Judgment is always visible and therefore not veiled. The title is taken from Catholsim scripture and speaks to the religious dogma that leads many people to behave a certain way.
Description of Installation: Three large-scale gelatin-silver prints, framed, lit by painting lights, kneelers, curtains, and dark red walls
