Series of 10, sizes vary, 1997

Residual

Following the series Saved and White Walls, these ten images were made as a result of the observation that most objects outlast us. Rebecca Solnit’s essay “The Color of Shadows the Weight of Breath the Sound of Dust” (published in Once Removed: Portraits by J. John Priola) inspired this direction. If the ephemeral objects exist and no longer hold the meaning we imbued them with, then what is left?  The butterflies here look as dead as they do alive. The single bubble and dandelion seed are long gone but hold meaning long after their disappearance.
